DP remakes could very well be a part of this generation. It wouldn't be weird for them to add more regional variants there, just like they added more megas in ORAS.

Megas are a mechanic, not feature so it's a no. Plus, these are forms and it would be a waste to not try and expand on it in future instalments.

If we do get Sinnoh forms, they would have to be only Pokemon from gens 5, 6 or 7. Or any Pokemon that weren't able to be caught in DPPt.

Looking at Shellos/Gastrodon, and the fact that Sinnoh is basically divided into 2 halves, I could see them making some kind of east/west Sinnoh form for old pokemon (maybe even with the original form on the opposite coast) catchable ingame

Well, since Alola have regional form of just Kanto Pokémon, I would expect Sinnoh forms of Johto Pokémon.

Makes sense. Do Johto after Kanto, Johto has ties to Sinnoh, and upon release of Diamond and Pearl remakes, Johto will be the furthest in the past, release-wise, essentially. Besides Kanto, which is getting love in Alola. I can see them keeping it up to refresh the most out of date Pokemon at the time.
