This is easily the weakest argument for Megas being gone. Megas aren't the gimmick this gen, just like double battles weren't the gimmick of gen IV. They didn't show up in advertising, but they were still in the game. It's more likely, as you said, that there just won't be any new ones added so it's not worth showing off.

Well Z-moves and Mega Stones are items and will most likely need the same device (Z-ring) to activate said mechanic. So basically it will be like either have a Mega mon or a pokemon with a Z-move on the team.

There's been no mega band or mega stone for the same reason there's been no mega Pokemon; there's nothing new to show, so it's not worth showing. The Z-moves are the gimmick, so we've seen Z-crystals and the Z-ring. You'll probably get an upgrade to your Z-ring to hold a keystone in post game or something.

I really don't see that happening. They've made Z moves out to be a big new feature, they're not going to make it so that you can choose not to use them in favour of megas.

There's no rule that says that every new feature in each gen has to be present in each subsequent generation. Megas were a gen 6 feature, and will almost definitely remain so. The only argument that they will be in SM is "prove they won't", which isn't an argument at all.

Maybe there conserving for other games. Unless SM has Kalos, you don't really need new megas. Kahunas/Elite 4 are likely to have Z-Rings because Hala has one. It would just be a main Alola Pokemon or Alolan Form with Z-Move as their ace Pokemon. Hau is practically almost guaranteed to have Raichu as his Z-Move Pokemon.

If Z-moves and Megas are both one type per-battle, and then the next gen introduces a new similar gimmick not only would the meta be balanced, the meta would be incredibly varied because users wouldn't need to use the same type of super gimmick.

I think they're still in. So far there hasn't been a single Alola form for mons that had megas. If megas were scrapped then wouldn't we see something like Alolan Alakazam or gen 1 starters by now?

To not overshadow the new features and storyline. Kalos's storyline was entirely focused on discovering mega evolution and how to make it happen. Obviously Alola is focused more on regional forms, Z-Moves and such- which would be completely disregarded and thrown out the window if, say, Mega Flygon was suddenly leaked.

Even if we don't get new megas the old ones are still more than likely in.

If we do see new megas I could honestly see most of them being gens 2-6 with probably Dragonite being the sole Gen 1 chap.

They have shown every old feature so far, except the Megas.

Nothing really says they can't quite yet. Like I said as far as I know we've never seen the bracelets back side. Which is where the slots are in the trailers.

I wish I had that screenshot saved honestly.

The real question is if the game will have new megas. If it does I don't see them being promoted until towards the end of the press hype so that Z-movies and Alola forms can get a bulk of the press.

Also megas were too successful to outright abandon. I know following was popular but megas pushed a lot of merch.

I really don't see a need for new ones unless we get Kalos. I mean if we get Battle Frontier, some brains couldn't use megas like Brandon or Noland. Some could like Tucker with Swampert and Lucy with Gyarados. Anabel has Snorlax as her ace so Z-Move suits her.

Or just don't use megas in BF and have all the brains universally use Z-Moves.

Even without new megas, I'm sure there will be some characters that will use them. Probably returning champion cameos like Cynthia.

Except there is. If it's a game changing mechanic it must remain in the game, which is why even the oath moves and mossy/icy rocks are still in because they present game changing mechanics and new evolution methods.
