They've always been obviously real. You shouldn't need Mallow to see these are on another level fakemon don't approach. They continue XY's style of starter while fitting into Alola perfectly.
Also, Mallow's hairbow is also Robinhoot's chest-X. X is a symbol of life (Xerneas), your heart is in your chest, the heart chakra is green, represents growth, balance and freedom, Rowlet is green, also has a bow on his chest. Rowlet is described as deadly calm and is blooming with leaf feathers.
Popplio and Sirenpop both reflect the (blue) heart chakra, being collared and a singer respectively, and like to soothe and communicate with people.
Litten suppresses its passion, represents low energy, bursts red spikes from its back when attacking. Beltigre fires flames from his waist, is generally wild, fits both the root and sacral chakra.
Given how many other spiritual/alchemical themes appear to be in Sun and Moon, I really don't think incorporating chakras into the starter designs was an accident. And it's subtle enough that I feel there's no way a fan could've drawn these.
I like edgy things, so I get wanting Ballio etc. but come on. Three blatantly Dark type starters? Even if the Owlsassin does look like the statue in the Kalos League.
