If we ever get Secret Bases again, I want us to be able to customize their shape, and even make the insides larger.
Thats the only thing keeping Secret Bases from absolute perfection.

The secret base area inside the Rusturf Tunnel is pretty nice. It's fairly large and it's right next to Verdanturf town for convenience.

I use one near the huge berry patch south of Mt Pyre, to the east of the transition and north of the ledge/east of the grass. I like the idea of picking berries and then relaxing there.

I can imagine them keeping the basic shapes but allowing you to 'mine'/'cut' more room using tools to customize your base's shape.
