You have to go to three schools between DPPt, BW1, and BW2 to advance the plot, there's optional ones in RBY/FRLG, GSC/HGSS, RSE/ORAS, and XY, and ones have shown up at multiple points in the anime.

He's still 10 but it's aknowledged that he's been traveling for awhile, so he's probably canonically going to almost be turning 11 forever.

Since they're already borrowing from Youkai Watch anyway, let's assume they make the show more episodic than it's been in the past. If they feel like using a location other than the school, they can just start the episode there and have the narrator say that they went to Akane beach to study Pyukumyuku or something, then be back at the school next episode.
