And then after that arc, his issues are completely dealt with and never brought up again. I can get developing, but it makes it even more obvious that it was a shitty write-in for the sake of adding drama, and not to further his character in a meaningful way.
Like skip that whole arc and imagine they mastered Ash-Greninja without it. Ash and Greninja are exactly the same before and after.
