Why haven't any of the Pokemon games had a "real" Pokemon League where you battle in a single elimination tournament post game?

because the anime likes dramatic evenly matched battles and Ash going through E4 and probably losing to the Champion would be pretty different considering he'd need to sweep their teams. Unless if they only have like, one Pokémon.

That's still just 5 trainers in a row though. Colosseum essentially ends with an Elite 4, then 2 champions.
