None of the protagonist are canon using legendaries on their teams. They TAME them and catch them. They catch/befriend fucking "gods". Mewtwo probably hated red.

Krystal, gold, hilda/hildert, dawn, brendan/may, serena/calem are all canonly recognized as worthy trainers by legendary pokemon. Sometimes MULTIPLE legendary pokemon.

Red is recognized by some dude standing in front of a cave.

I can't remember how rosa/nate conquered kyurem. Wad it normal conquering or more befriending. It's conquering, right? After ghetsis transformed it

Uh, the games. Gen 1 legends are irrelevant as fuck compared to others even in the remakes.

In gen 2 (HGSS), Ho-Oh and Lugia appear before you and acknowledge you as worthy, same with Suicune. In Hoenn you're entrusted to stop the primals from ramaging, and Rayquaza helps you save the world. The legends in DP want you to stop them, and the pixies come to your aid to help stop the creation legends. You're a fucking chosen one in BW, and Kalos is... Kalos. The legends there join you to stop Lysandre.
