Why couldn't you battle him in Black 2?

They mention the protag during the game and you never see them. This is why Heart Gold/Soul Silver will always be better than Black 2/White 2. What a huge disappointment.

The only way I could see it happening would be via use of the memory link. If you use it after beating the E4 and N/Ghetsis then it should have had a battle where you could fight the protag (either hilda or hilbert based on which you chose) and the team you entered the hall of fame with.

If it hadn't been that I don't see how it would've made any sense.

I feel like they could've at least copped out and made teams based on who you chose. At the most there would be 6 variations: 3 for Male Trainer and 3 for Female Trainer. But of course it's GameFreak, so they were bound to mess SOMETHING up.

In Unova 2 people talk about a character that saved Unova, participated in Musicals, etc. but no name is told... unless you have connected with BW1 through Unova Link, and if you battle against a people with BW1 (either Wireless/IR/Online) the protagonists have a new animated sprite. This was BW2 selling point for me and people with BW1 were so common during Gen V.

I feel like it was only hyped as much as it was because no one really expected to fight him in the originals. Climbing Mt. Silver and at the top finding a trainer that looks like the original trainer in RBY and end up fighting him was super fucking awesome as a kid.

That's really cool. You could tell they actually learned a lot on their journey and grew as a character. It's a damn shame this was cut out.

I mostly took it as implied speech. It's like in RBY when you go to the Mimic girl's house when you "talk" to the girl and she keeps repeating what you said (but didn't see your character say).
