Honestly, I don't really see any reason to buy both versions, especially since you can just trade the stuff you don't have from the internet. Plus I have a friend who is getting the opposite version, so I have no need to own both Sun and Moon.

I just kind of hope that whatever pokemon get version exclusive evolutions, they check the evolution based on what version the pokemon originated from, making it easy to just trade an egg to your friend, instead of having to trade the pokemon away when you want to evolve it... Though knowing Gamefreak, it might just be the latter one they do.

Why would they mention their secrets in the same breath if they weren't the same secret. I could see if it said "Rockruff hides a secret, and the starters hide a secret of their own as well," but it literally said "Rockruff and the starters all hide a secret." Yep Sun & Moon are polar realities where things happen differently.
Night is Day and vise-versa.

I don't think you understand. If I'm going to get a split evolution that's exclusive to one game, if I trade for it, it wont be the nature I'd want, it'd have none of the egg moves I want, and most importantly it can't be nicknamed by me. The problem is that there's extreme exclusivity with this concept. Legendaries I'm okay with since I don't use them unless stated otherwise (VGC) but I'm not going to buy two games just to get a different final evolution.

Lugaruga Midday and Night are the same pokemon.
They take up the same spot.
They can't transfer between form.
They are different type.
Different stats.
Different movesets.

Dude, you can evolve your rockruff at either day or night in either version; they're not full-blown version exclusives like we've seen in the past. Just that if you want the night form in your Sun game, you have to wait to evolve it.

Finally, the idea of Rockruff always evolving into Midday in Sun and Midnight in Moon just doesn't make sense. Regardless of what's been version exclusive before, >>28501088 is right- evolutions have always been internally consistent. Japanese tends to be very superfluous when translated though. It's why a lot of Western shows stereotype anime as having a lot of goofy phrasing just to express a simple thought. On top of that, it's a magazine that intentionally builds hype, so obviously, they would phrase something in such a way to garner interest in it.

Where do you see the word "only" in there? All I see is that the information says that "midday form is shown in sun" and "midnight form is shown in moon", not that they're exclusive.
