What if Generations only exists to gauge interest in none-Ash anime?

If Generations becomes a hit will we see a fully fledged anime series that doesn't have Ash?

It wouldn't be able to survive without merchandise and DVD sales, which I doubt the type of people that want an anime like Generations would buy.

The reason the Ashnime has stayed alive this long is because it sells merchandise.

They know an anime like Origins/Generations wouldn't be profitable.

Didn't they just push Origins solely to build up and show off Mega Charizard

It just the timing for generations is a little odd considering we just had the total fallout with Ash losing the league again

What makes the Pokemon Anime version merchandise different to generic Pokemon merchandise? The former and latter would seem basically indistinguishable to me as (Correct me if I'm wrong) the only partly original parts of the anime are Jessie/James, Hunter J and Ash Greninja; EVERYTHING else being some form or another of direct rip from the games.

How can you say it is the anime selling generic pokemon merchandise rather then the base game, cards, manga, etc?
