I think Megas are going to be in Pokemon Sun and Moon but only in the cutscene for one Z attack. Do we can probably expect at least 1 unique Z Move per Pokemon that currently has a Mega + Snorlax + Pikachu + Alolan Raichu + Whatever they haven't revealed yet.

Just like how Giratina-O got cut, Rotom got cut, and Therian formes got cut, right?

The only forme to not get transferred to future gens was the Spiky-Eared Pichu (and maybe the Pikachu-coloured Pichu too)

Well they probably realized it was a huge mistake and instead of removing iconic forms we've grown to love they could keep them in but in a completely new way. I don't see what's so unreasonable especially considering the fact that acquiring Gym badges, the very foundation of your adventure in Pokemon for the last 20 years has now been removed.

I think they will be absent for the plot, but just like the countless forms of old legendaries, they will still be stapled into the game, more for competitive battlemonkeys than anyone else.

They literally just removed a staple mechanic of Pokemon. Gyms. I don't think relocating Mega Kangaskhan to a cool two hit Z move is a ridiculous idea at this point.

They aren't adding any new megas but they will still keep megas usable in the game. They are never going to get rid of them.

Mega Evolution is so broken though, look what they did to weather. Look what they did to the Dragon type. They clearly care about the metagame on some level and their best bet is to cut their losses now. Instead of creating megas every game I think its in their best interest to have megas be used in Z Move animations and find a way to buff the bad pokemon like Mawile another way.

I think that Megas will still be in the game, but in a different way somehow. Either by saying that Mega Evolution is now Z forms, and transforming into a Z Form takes up the turn, or something like that.

I couldn't be more grey than possible on this. Keep Mega designs but only use them for Z moves. You aren't getting rid of the pokemon themselves but you aren't exactly keeping them around for battles either.

They nerfed the core mechanics of those battle elements. Changing Mega Evolution to a cutscene animation is changing its core mechanic, not really nerfing it. So I don't think removing Megas is an option, especially since not many core battle mechanics have been removed(such as Gems). Rather, I'd like to see them get nerfed similar to those core battle mechanics that you incorrectly used as proof that gamefreak is willing to change mechanics.

So here is my stupid theory on Megas in S/M: remember during Delta Episode those scientist saying they want to create a wormhole? If I am not wrong they were using Infinite Energy for that. And Infinite Energy is what made mega stones

So now in S/M we have those UBs next to the same portals. Maybe they manage to create and use the very same portals and after defeating them o whaever that Infinite Energy spreads through Alola, to bring Megas to the postgame.

Probably someone else have said the same thing before, so feel free to call me an idiot.

No at most three non-legendary megas were broken. The rest were brought up to levels to compete with Pokémon that surpassed them due to power creep or ideal abilities. And let's not forget that some Megas are weaker than their base form despite the BST increase. *cough* Mega Garchomp *cough*
