At least, basing it off from the only footage we have of them which is coming out of hyperspace warp holes.
Of course, I could be dead wrong and maybe they are manmade abominations, but they clearly appear to exist as something even the Aether Foundation isn't aware of. At least judging by the UB-01 cutscene of course.
