Buy an used one, make sure it isn't updated, hack it (it's piss easy to do nowadays) and ta-daa, you can download everything from the freeshop for free.

Because the third party company that hosted the DS and Wii servers was bought out and the new owners shut down all their game servers, and unlike PC games that were effected by this, DS games can't be officially patched to change the server the games are coded to connect to.

Pretty sure there are fan-run servers for several DS and Wii games you can access with DS flash cards or a modded Wii respectively, but barring Mario Kart Wii I don't think any of them are well populated.

Kadabra, Machoke, and Haunter are surprisingly great while unevolved. Trade evolutions felt like a privilege where if you trade, you get an overpowered pokemon out of it.

Kadabra and Haunter are only not terrible because ghost/psychic is OP in gen I. They're nothing worth nothing either. And then you have Graveler which is literally dogshit if you don't evolve it to Golem
