I don't really keep up with/care about the anime but the new style looks really cute and comfy.

I say give it a chance. The frst episode looks childish as shit, but it could get more serious ver time, generations of the anime always start cheesy.

Plus from what we know of the plot of the games there could be some heavy stuff.

I feel like the best way to describe Ash's new look is that it feels like the 'safety scissors' equivalent to character design. All the hard edges/corners and lines of his face and hair have been rounded off, as if someone took sandpaper to them. I'm surprised they didn't do the same for Pikachu's tail.

I get why you're saying, but I don't see how anybody will be able to take the anime seriously with Ash looking like a fucking 8 year old and what not. XYZ Ash was so good and looked mature af, so it was easy to take everything seriously.
