A lot of people get confused because of the anime. There is a popular fan theory that links all of Giovanni's activities in the game to Mewtwo though.

I also remember that other time in gen 1 where I got handed a stone that gave my starter legendary tier stats that barely anyone else in the game uses

I'm not saying gen V is actually difficult, I'm saying that they're probably the hardest main-series Pokemon games. Its all Pokemon, so its still all pretty easy.

As far as I remember, though it has been a while, they were games that actually had some challenge that didn't rely on broken level curves or nonsensical level progression.

The "PROBLEMS WITH GEN 1" image has a lot of stupid nitpicking and stuff that doesn't matter - the main problems are the absolutely horrid AI and terrible enemy movepools. I played Yellow recently and it was just not very fun because the AI was so fucking stupid and they didn't have any moves. Early game is really boring tacklewars/normal move slap fights too.

Because Gen I had the best dungeons.

IV is a close second since it was largely built with one in mind but most of the games only really focus on Victory Road and fuck the rest over.

Gen I on the other hand really focused on making them a struggle. Mount Moon is such a huge map and when you don't know where you're going it's easy to get lost or to struggle. Seafoam, the Unknown Dungeon, Victory Road. They were all pretty great.

Even Rock Tunnel if you don't use Flash is just such a great challenge when you don't have the layout memorized.

Also to defend Gen VI's Mewtwo location to be fair the maze forest is the real dungeon. It's not like you don't have to do some kind of work to reach Mewtwo. It's just a rather easy way. But honestly most modern Pokemon dungeons are.

TMs are infinite so you can give moves like Earthquake to everything in your team (if they can learn it, of course)
Exp. share exists.

Gen 1:
Trainers use random moves.
Pokemon's movepools are so shit that you can easily counter them or use free turns to setup (even in E4).
Rhydon and Golem wall half of Pokedex.
Alakazam sweeps EVERYTHING.
A lot of TMs contain amazing moves.

Both are very easy if you know what you are doing.

If you started with Bulbasaur, Gen 1 was stupidly easy. It made so many of the big battles easy. Brock, Misty, LT Surge, Giovanni, Lorelei, Bruno, and the Fighting Dojo. By the time you encounter any Fire or Ice types you typically have a Water type by then to deal with those threats.

Gen VI is fucking easy, before the E4 I had something like 12 pokemon over level 65 thanks to the exp share.
by using just a team of 6 you probably end up with pokemon at level 80

I started with yellow and also recently played again through yellow (VC), black 2 and X.
Black 2 was by far the hardest game. Not saying it was hard but the difficulty was noticeably higher than other games'.
Yellow and X are both around the same difficulty level. Yellow because of the stupid AI that uses tail whip 5 times in a row even if your pokemon is on 1HP, weak gym leaders (shit movesets) and psychic types being OP. (And a few other reasons)
Gen 6 was easy as well but for different reasons.

Gen I and VI (XY) are the easiest in the series.

Glitches are just annoying desu, half of the moves/types/learn sets are broken either in design or implementation which results in tons of moms not getting decent level up moves. Factor in some types having no good attacks (fighting, ghost, bug, dragon) and the game becomes pretty dull

It's in the anime, that's also why people think Pokemon are taller/bigger than they really are.

What glitches did Gen1 even HAVE that affected gameplay in any way unless you tried to trigger them?
I played them first when I was 5, then again last year. They're still fun games, that play without a hitch, and with a polish that no other GB game has in the entire fucking Nintendo official library.

People nowadays like to play Gen1 on emulators, with one "bulbapedia - Gen 1 glitches" open, only to do them all and go "Nyehehe, Gen1 was suuuuch a mess!"

Truth is, if you played Gen1 normally, you won't see a single fucking glitch. Not even once. Glitch triggers are extremely specific, and all of them were not even discovered as malicious. All of the Gen1 glitches were discovered and then exploited by the same kind of cancer that went on to become smogon.

No glitch was "game breaking". They were all stuff that you could bruteforce to your own advantage by doing extremely specific things. Things no <10 years old kid (aka the intended demographic of every single game in the series) would do.
