So I'm a total dumbass and this might not make sense, but if Pokebank updated for Sun and Moon before its release, could people feasibly datamine it and see the lists of new Pokemon?

Yes, That's literally what Smea is doing as he added some placeholder data into Bank, that if it works "as intended" will update itself with the New Pokemon's typing, name, and stats.

Doubt it. While it can be done, there's a 87.5% chance that it will come at least a week after release, while the actual game would have leaked at least 2 weeks before via chinese or super early copies.

I was thinking that since they have shown more pokemon than usual, maybe they will reveal most of them close to release to mitigate datamining, they will leave a couple hidden, but probably most of the basic pokemon will be revealed by the end of October or something.
