Is Pokémon: The First Movie the only film that is canon with the animated series due to some of it actually being featured in the TV shows.

BW had flashbacks to Original Series. DP included Original Series/Advanced mons. The only season with its own Canon is XY as I believe there's been 0 mention of past characters.

False, the only mention of a past companion was Dawn and Piplup. I forgot the episode number but it's when the XY gang go into an underwater museum and there's a group of piplup waddling in a line. A piplup goes up to Ash and in the dubbed version Ash says 'we know a Piplup that's really something else'.

While I won't say >>28645329 , what I will say is that the anime is nothing but a loose filler adaptation of the games. It doesn't really have a canon.

I don't think there's anything that would make any of the movies non-canon. Kind of the opposite of DBZ where none of the movies could be canon because of not fitting into the timeline, except the Super ones.

I was also confused about this. But my question is about the legendaries.

I was watching the hoopa movie a couple weeks ago. And when Lugia was there to help out, was it the same Lugia from the 2nd movie? Or from that episode where team rocket tried to steal the baby Lugia? Shouldn't legendary Pokemon be one of a kind? How could they even develop offspring?

Legendaries were never meant to be one of a kind. Only certain exceptions like Arceus are truly unique.

Pretty sure in the anime it's canon that there are multiple of Legendary Pokemon (there's the Mewtwo from the first movie and the one from the Genesect movie, there's a regular Rayquaza and a shiny one, the two different Deoxys, etc.)
