After playing Random Doubles and experiencing the sheer excitement and gimmickery of it I can never go back to Singles. There is a LOT more strategy and mindgaming involved in Doubles and sick combination attacks undreamed of in Singles.

I still like Singles, but Doubles is far more fun.

Triples are shit though.

I find it interesting how despite having no banlists (other than whatever is the gimmick for that year's vgc/format) vgc still manages to evolve and change.

eg: When vgc15 started Sylveon skyrocketed in usage. In return Bisharp became a staple on every good team. Then everyone started using more Fire/Fighting types, so Bisharp usage fell and Milotic usage went up. etc.

Subjective, but I do not enjoy Doubles OU by smogon. I enjoy the tactical aspect of vgc of bringing 4 out of the 6 you have and trying to predict what 4 your opponent will bring.

I think triples is fantastic but Dark Void Smeargle is the one thing stopping it from being perfect, they need to at least make Wide Guard block it. Terracott is pretty annoying too.

No, singles is a fucking joke. Go watch any high level singles match of your choice and it's all the same shit built around the same 5-6 cores with people switching in and out until one guy guesses wrong or accumulates too much scratch damage and then gets their anus ripped.

Meanwhile in Doubles you can wreck ubers with total shit just by Protecting right. You can make things like Wonder Minun work.

Personally, Singles. It's just much simpler in a way and doesn't usually restrict your moveset by inserting moves such as Protect.

But Doubles and Triples(Rotation even) are fantastic formats that can really balance stuff out and make even the lamest Pokemon work. It also makes Pokemon like Mega Fug not as intimidating as it is in Singles. I would prefer Doubles if I wasn't such a scrub at it. Triples too, but it seems like such a clusterfuck.

I haven't really played doubles, I'm just worried that pokemon I like are only worth using in singles. Why bother with Scizor when Megamence and Primals are everywhere? What do I even do with Volcarona? Bisharp might fit somewhere but maybe not. I just don't know.

Bisharp is dirty as fuck in Doubles because you can pair it with something like Me First Clefable/Togekiss or Ragepowder Amoongus. You can have it Protect and then cripple whoever is trying to attack it with T-Wave or a WoW.

If you don't want to deal with Primals play fucking Doubles OU or something. Alternatively even Primals and Mega Fug can get fucked in Doubles because of Dark Void shenanigans.

Doubles offers far more freedom because you can fake people out into attacking a Protected mon so they waste their turn while you fucking wail on them 2v1. There are many more gimmicks and mindgames to play around with. I have fucked people up in Doubles with absolute crap because in Doubles you play the person, not some half assed community-approved core.

I prefer Doubles just because it makes a lot more Pokemon viable. So many "shitmons" in singles benefit so much just from having something backing it up, whether that's from redirecting attacks or providing support it couldn't get on its own. There's also a lot of fun strategies to come up with just for shits and giggles. Case in point:

Singles. In Doubles you can lose at any time even if you predict properly 90% of the time. It's also way faster. Plus, I don't like having to run Protect on basically every single mon. It's all just a game of chance to me.

I don't completely hate it though, it's fun with friends.
