Can we talk about these starter evolutions?

They're so shit.

I agree with Genwunners to an extent here. The new designs are way too complex and also aren't gender neutral. In gen 6, we had the super feminine Delphox and the super masculine Chesnaught. In 7th gen we have the super feminine Poppmaid and the super masculine Luchalitten.

What the fuck, man? In Gen 1-5 we had totally normal starter pokemon, so what's the deal with 6 and 7?

They're so good though, ever since they first leaked I just knew they had to be real, and I'm so glad I was right. Luchalitten and Poppmaid are my two favorite ever starters, and I'm planning on using both - and I usually don't use starters at all.

Starter designs were hardly gender neutral before, they're almost unequivocally masculine, though I'll admit to varying degrees.

I don't really see how these starters are any more complex than anything after Gen 2 either, and even though Feraligatr is one of my favourite pokemon, the Gen 2 starters, including Gatr, are remarkably bland.

Yes, but they didn't say it has to do with evolution. If anything it's probably something related to Z-moves.
Besides, seeing as they leaked in the first place, do you really not think both forms would have leaked if that was the case? None of the (real) leaks even mention it, either.

True, but I feel like I could see a lot of the masculine pokemon as feminine. With Poppmaid, I can't even see that thing as a male. Same with Delphox and the rest.

I don't feel gen 2 designs were complex at all. Meganium did look a little complex, but the rest were very basic; hardly any varying colors. They weren't overwhelming.

Why is everyone suddenly convinced that there's absolutely no way we're getting split evos? Wasn't that basically confirmed when Rockruff got split day/night forms-- since the starters and Rockruff "share a secret"?

Feminine/masculine looking designs have always existed in Pokemon. That doesn't make them bad either. You're complaining about something the series has been doing since its inception.

I don't think that's necessarily true. And even then, there's a huge difference between identifying WITH something vs identifying AS something. There's no reason you couldn't identify with something/someone just because their gender doesn't match yours.
