Nobody actually believes the mechanic is gone. You'll have to be actually legitimately retarded to think GF would remove such an enormous feature, plot-point and money maker. Megas being retconned out has about the same chance of happening as breeding getting retconned out, and you won't see that happening anytime soon either.
