Man, I enjoy the game but could they have maybe raised the overall level of enemy pokemon by a few levels across the board all over the game?

I never feel like I'm in danger, ever.

I battled every trainer on every route, yes, but I don't grind grass or anything. Do you consider battling every trainer once grinding? I don't.

I swap around my two HM slaves when I need them (Land slave for East map, water slave for west map side), meaning I had 5 Pokemon + Sharpeedo slave/attacker.

Battling every trainer was not enough, but only barely though.

IMO the real issue is the massive difference in levels between the trainers and wild Pokemon, which means if the trainers begin to out level you, you're in shit street, so trainer levels are a bit lax to prevent this from happening to all 12 of the under thirteen year olds that play the game.

Yes, why not?
I always let everyone in my team do some work, both in and outside of battles. Everyone gets one (rarely two, depending on who can learn what) HM move.

It's not like you always need 4 powerful attacks on every Pokemon and a perfectly strategically thought-out team to get through the story.

That's true I guess, but it's just a really shitty system.
Glad SM is doing away with that once again and we won't have to ever use HM slaves again or even think about them.

I still think they were too lenient with trainer/rival/gym leader etc. levels in this game. At least so far. Unless the game suddenly spikes later on I feel like this.

Okay but consider this:

If I had a full team of 6 mons I battled with (no pure HM slaves) then yes, they would all be lower level, but on the other hand I would also have six pokemon versus the far less all opponents have. I'm not convinced it would really up the difficulty just like that.

You do know that gen VI made other sweeping changes to the exp system besides the exp share right? Like getting full exp from battling, that's one major change that is going to affect the game. Capture exp shouldn't really matter that much, unless you catch a shitton of pokemon.

Gen VI really fucked up the exp system

- Exp share
- Amie boost
- Full exp from battling
- NFE boost
- O-power
- Capture experience
- Free* lucky egg

Might be something I'm forgetting.

*not in ORAS, but there you can easily get a full set of six of them from one of the most common pokémon in the game. Takes a miniscule effort at least. You have to talk to one specific NPC in XY to get it as well, so I don't really count this point really that bad, especially as gen V did it as well. It's more when it's seen in combination with the other stuff.

Maybe that anon wants 4 strong moves? It's not always about needing something, it's about wanting to play the game your way. I really don't like putting HMs on my team (barring maybe Surf/Fly if applicable), as I dislike not being able to remove at will in any situation as well as the moves generally being sub-par.

Always bugged me how except for some of the last few gym leaders and the elite 4 almost every trainer you meet only has 1-3 pokemon....and the very rare pokemaniacs (or whatever) with a full team are like 10 levels below everyone else around.

Never really used this except for maybe 2-3 times when I was bored and when I wanted a Sylveon. Always thought this was (except for Sylveon) just a gimmick to kill some time.
