Magearna was made as what's basically a robot, but let's say its soul heart lets it have a soul, hence why you can have it in a ball and stuff because balls are only supposed to hold pokémon but they also can hold items so it works either way, whatever.

Porygon - First Artificial Pokemon
Magearna - First Man-Made Pokemon.

The difference is that people made Porygon virtually and gave it virtual life, Magearna was made by man's hand and given live through an object.

Fuck, meant "made Porygon".
What I mean is is that they actually are discovering new pokemon, and Magearna was forgotten before the Pokedex and Porygon were made, and rediscovered AFTER the Pokedex and Porygon were made.
