There was plenty, and at multiple points.
Keep in mind the first sight of a hatless avatar was actually quite awhile ago, so that's a reason why there wasn't that much hype over it after the last trailer with the customization focus.

Looking back I get why customization wasn't in ORAS. Unlike other games you encounter both your parents and if you changed your character's skin colour then you're going to look adopted. At least in XY/SM your darker skinned character can be considered mixed race, your ORAS character would be either adopted or the result of an affair.
