Hello, how do I play Pokemon games?

I am playing LeafGreen right now, and I am not sure how to proceed. Should I collect all Pokemon, or can I just catch the ones I like? And what do I do with Pokemon I no longer use? Just forget them at the bank?

This is my first Pokemon game.

You just collect the pokemon you feel like catching as you go. After you beat the main quest, you can backtrack and catch the ones you missed, if you want. As for mons you don't use anymore, just put them away in your boxes.

Get the ones you like. Or collect them all. Its your choice, do whatever satisfies you. Leave the ones you aren't using at the bank (called a PC). But as long as you're at least following the basic path of getting the badges, don't let anyone tell you you're playing wrong

Play however you want, but if you're still completing the main story game, most people usually use the Pokemon they like the most, then focus on catching them all post game since you'll have access to all of them.

There is a 'Release' option when selecting Pokemon is your PC. Picking this option for the pokemon that you plan on using means that they will no longer be confined to Pokeballs and can be called to your side at any time, like Ash's Pikachu in the cartoon.

Main quest is eight gyms, elite four and stopping some crime organization. You can use what you want, how you want and the game tells you where to go, provided you actually read the dialogue. Really the only things you need to worry about are levels and know what attacks to use against what. Just play the game and you'll get the hang of it.

What you're going to want to do is collect at least one fighting type, flying type, and rock or ground type. The best place to do this is the grass on route 22 where you can get a Mankey, Nidoran, and Spearow.

The fun is doing what you want. You like a certain monster? Raise it up. Catch as many as you can, play the minigames, up to you really. As long as you get the badges and beat the Elite 4 you've beaten the "quest"

The rest is up to your playstyle, and thats why it's fun. Experiment.

Normally people catch the ones they like, and after they beat the main part of the game try to catch em all.

Yeah just leave them at the PC, it's on every pokemon center and it's really easy to use.

The main objective in the game is to travel around the region, battle the gym leaders and doing the various quests in between. Then, you battle the strongest trainers which are the Elite 4.

Make sure to talk with ALL the NPCs you find in your path. Sometimes even twice. Some of them will give you important/useful items for your journey.

Make sure to always have spare Pokeballs on you at all times in case you encounter a rare pokemon/one that you really like.

Explore and make sure to return later in the game to the zones you already been to so you can unlock new paths and secrets.

Once you beat the Elites, make sure to come back for the end game content to catch Gen 2 and 3 pokemon, visit the new islands and catch Mewtwo.

Most importantly: Have fun!
