In reality, Serena should be down with the rest of the X and Y rivals. She got extra points for being hot, I guess.

I know he isn't really an antagonistic rival which a lot of people like, but I love Wally's underdog story. ORAS really made him awesome to fight, coming out of Victory Road to that battle arena and music was an amazing feeling.

Cheren is a great rival, it's nice to see he got proper character development and became a gym leader/teacher unlike Green who stayed snooty.

Wally takes 2nd due to the same reasons that Cheren took first, his fight was gorgeous. Too bad ORAS was such a cakewalk that I steamrolled him.

Pokemon X and Y were truely awful games, not just by Pokemon standards, but by Nintendo standards

I'm pretty sure Barry has the highest level Pokemon out of any of the rivals. On my first few playthroughs he was quite a challenge too. I definitely had the most fun fighting him. Like his design too.
Silver was not only tough to fight (again, only on the first few playthroughs, if you know any rival's team they're incredibly easy to fight) but he also gave you a reason to fight him. He's being an ass and that makes you want to kick his ass. On top of that there's character development so that's nice.
Blue is pretty much the same as Silver to me, minus the character development.
The other rivals might have good Pokemon or character development too, but they were never really a challenge or there was no motivation to fight them and their battles just felt really forced. The exception are XY rivals. They're shit in every aspect and the game would most likely be ten times better without them. Only thing I remember about them is that Calem/Serena was stronger than the other three although still shit, Shauna had the forced "romantic" fireworks moment, Tierno has a Corpish with swordsdance and just kept talking about dancing and I wanted to fucking smash Trevor's head into the pavement because his constant pokedex talk was extremely aggravating somehow.
