I don't even get their attitude that "Ash has to lose"...he hasn't really "lost" in the sense that even at his shittiest he competes with the best of the region, which would probably conservatively put him in the top ~10-15% of trainers. Add to that XYZ, where he fought Alan, who is probably one of the most powerful trainers in the world, to practically a draw in the finals of the league, and it must put Ash as one of the best trainers in the world, especially in his age bracket.
Imagine if at the end of Rocky they make him go back to remedial boxing lessons. He's fought his way to the top, won respect and love of the country, fought a world champion evenly, almost won, but nope, too bad, he lost by a fraction, it's back to retard school.
