I'd been playing the series since the start, and never saw a shiny until D/P, a Quagsire.

Unfortunately, it was in the Great Marsh. It ran on the first turn. I didn't see another shiny until B/W2.

I don't think I've ever fucked up as bad as the kid in the video, but I've lost at least a couple shinies to recoil-inducing moves like takedown.

I killed the shiny Gyarados in silver, and I thought my life was over because my friend told me that you could only get it once. I have about four of the fuckers now since I keep finding shiny Magikarps on accident.

Why do people care so much about shinies? To me they're just a curiosity. Chances of finding a shiny of one of my favourite Pokemon are so slim that I don't care at all. To date I've caught a shiny Geodude, a shiny Buizel and seen a shiny Flabebe. Three Pokemon I could not care any less about.

The only one I'd say is worse is getting a shiny Zangoose/Seviper in a horde of the opposites. You have to be lucky and have a mon with Heal Pulse with you, and even then I'm not sure if it's possible.

Pinsir in Bug Catching Contest because I was a fucktard and let my Pokemon get paralyzed and weakened earlier.
Weedle in Bug Catching Contest because I accidentally hit run.
Koffing in Omega Ruby because I didn't check to see if it was shiny (only noticed in PokeDex).
Rattata in Safari Zone, ran.
Abra in Safari Zone, ran.

I still plan to reclaim all of these. Already reclaimed Koffing, albeit in SoulSilver.

One time I almost shat myself. I was trying to fish a Seadra in Y, when a shiny Dragalge appeared. As I was trying to capture a mon, I had a lvl 90 false swipper Haxorus in the party. So I used it once and I tried catching it 5 times with ultra, but nothing.
So I changed to my waifu Gardevoir to use hypnosis, but it failed and he poisoned me, and my fucking Gardevoir had synchronize, and I was like fuck fuck fuck, but fortunately he's poison, so he was not poisoned.

I encountered a shiny Weedle in SoulSilver on the way to Mr. Pokemon's house.
It was before I could even have Poke Balls so I was forced to run away since I couldn't bear to KO it.

Second was during a run of FireRed. I was playing on my old Gameboy SP and found a shiny Onix. I was so surprised I dropped my SP and it shut off.
That was more of my fault but I'm still pissed about the Weedle

I just thought there was something super special about it, so threw an ultra-ball...
It failed...
Graveler immediately self destructed.

I didn't catch a shiny pokemon until Daimond came out.

In the case of the Zangoose, it's possible if you have something with Earthquake strong enough to kill the Seviper but not the Zangoose. That's how I got a Toxic Boost one.

Other way around... Probably do the same with Petal Blizzard or something? Something resisted by Poison.

I just don't get how you can commit yourself to something as time intensive as shiny hunting and

1. Not know about PP issues. That Rayquaza has 3 low PP moves and can easily get PP stalled if you have something with pressure

2. Not be carrying a master ball for emergencies

3. Barring a a master ball, not carrying a heal pulse user for emergencies

4. Not be using a synchronize user to ensure a good nature

Basically if you want to hunt shinies, you should carry a suction cups Octillery both for the fishing boost and as something that can stay in against pokemon with phaze moves, a lv100 smeargle with spore, false swipe, heal pulse and thunder wave, the appropriate kind of synchronize user and if you're looking for ghosts something with foresight.

In my original White playthrough, I had three shiny encounters, being a Yamask, Zebstrika, and a Rufflet. When the Zebstrika came around, I thought it would be fun to use my regular Zebstrika to weaken it so I could replace him with his shiny counterpart. I brought it down to the yellow with two stomps, and a third wouldn't have killed. Crit stomp. Zippy did not want to be replaced, but I released him for doing such a horrible thing to me.
