why is almost every pokemon introduced in GSC completely useless? they are the best designed generation, but the most consistently unusable, even in-game.

Didn't put much thought into their stat distributions and the original 151 are given priority in order to make them viable for the current generations

And to be fair, they were operating on a different design philosophy back then. Most stuff introduced was pretty shit, but all the rare pokemon that were difficult to find or get were pretty good. Skarmory, larvitar, kingdra, scizor, heracross etc.

Granted, a lot of these aren't easy to get in the game or even possible to get during the main story mode, but Gen II had its gems.

Qwilfish with intimidate isn't even that unusable. It gets thunder wave and spikes, and destiny bond man, I could make a smogon team with it and ladder in OU decently. Can't say the same for a lot of other mons

I used Sunflora before in Gen II and got an MVP even if all it used was Petal Dance and Sludge Bomb, I used Delcatty in both Gen III and Gen VI and got irredemable trash both times even when I turned on EXP Share in ORAS just to overlevel the fuck out of Delcatty and it was still one-shotted by Pokemon twenty levels below it.
