it's not just about steel types. you can use toxic risk-free and it makes venoshock a viable choice on it. heatran gets fucked over. clefable can't use magic guard to absorb the poison against something with poison stab.

4x weakness to EQ will be a hindrance. Not necessarily a death knell, since Heatran manages just fine, but definitely something to keep an eye out for. LOTS of things keep EQ for coverage. Particularly Steel types.

It won't be a single stage, it'll obviously get an evolution, it looks like a first stage out of three. It may only be a two stage line though.

Many reasons. Some steel types won't be weak to fire. Sometimes you want to use toxic without the opponent being able to reliably switch to a counter. And if you go for a fire move your opponent may switch to something resistant anyway. This gives Salandit a lot of safety when using toxic
