XY is one of the faster games. I heard one guy say his playtime for BW2 was twice as long as XY but that may just be because they cut down on the grinding by a ton with the New EXP share.

Not really
If you want to use the exp share, you might as well rotate your team so the levels don't get out of control
Despite what people say here I thought it was a fun game

The story is decently paced in the first two gyms, everything after that feels like a car chase at the highest speed, knowing you're going to crash at the end

I don't actually think the first two gyms are well paced. In fact they have a huge gap between them that the only thing I can really compare would be between Skyla and Drayden in BW2. If they had put the second gym just a little earlier it would probably have been better even if by just a little bit.

In terms of how long it takes to beat, absolutely not. X and Y are definitely two of the faster Pokemon games. You could beat it in just a few days if you really worked on it. I restarted my Y a week or so ago and I just beat the 8th gym and caught the legendary tonight. But I haven't been giving it my full attention.
