So... what the fuck is the point of Generations?

I know their alleged point is to "Show stuff that you don't see in the games", but none of it is interesting. With this latest one, it was just total make-believe shit with Lance coming in and OHKO-ing everything for Gold. Before that, it was just Blue being introduced to each Gen 1 elite 4 member (because they can't be bothered to animate more than one move per battle). Before that was pretty much just an example of how pokemon can be used in real-world situations, and even then it was just "they can break stuff".

Beyond how boring it is, though, what's Game Freak's idea behind this? Obviously they're not making a whole lot of money from it, since they're so incredibly short and are free on Youtube. Is it to get newcomers to become interested in Pokemon? Because that's obviously not going to work, considering that newcomers have no clue about anything these episodes are talking about and they aren't really particularly cool. Is it just for shits and giggles? Do they have money to burn?

What I want to know most of all, though, is why not do another episodic thing like with Origins? I mean, it's nice to get a grab bag of stuff from throughout pokemon, but why not have one cohesive story to keep people coming back? As it is, it's just four minutes of disappointing confrontation without any real action. Why not show us a new trainer on his way to becoming champion? Why not just show random stuff going on in the pokemon world, instead of "boring things that happened off-screen because they weren't relevant"?
