So if I'm understanding this correctly:

TL;DR I was already pretty excited for the new animation in Sun & Moon, but now I'm even MORE excited!

Let's get serious on this for a second.

Digital has been one of those things where Japanese animation can ONLY get better with over time and there's still room to grow.

Toon Boom in the hands of both vets and fresh talent is POTENTIALLY a renaissance waiting to happen.

Maybe not Tezuka's era renaissance or Miyazaki's age renaissance but something that can potentially foster more talent than overglorified waifufags.

Anyway from what you wrote in the OP, it sounds cool enough, but not enough that I would consider actively watching the Pokemon anime. Anime is better watched marathoned than weekly, anyhow.

Sounds great, and I have heard toon boom was pretty good and I actually want to get into animation as but it's expensive as fuck, but that's a me problem
Their problem is that even with toon boom, there's still the issue of IF they want to use it to the full potential. I understand with the right budget any crazy shit is possible, but you also need a willing crew with dedication to pull off moving masterpieces, and eith the history of the ashime being, for a better word, lackluster, even with X and Y series being in it, people are probably not going to be too eager to dedicate so much time and effort to it
Otherwise, if other studios use it for other projects and dedicate to it, it'll be one hell of a boom to close off this year

The thing is that the current anime's top animators, Oashi and Nishitani were very displeased with how the final went and whined about they not letting Ash win for once. And besides maybe Iwane they're the only animators with potential. They're young, XY was their first time animating the pokemon anime and they have clearly shown how skilled they are compared to the other dead beat animators. Just look at episodes like Ash vs Clemont/Shota/Alan/XY&Z1 or shots like Ash-greninja vs Mega gardevoir. They're above any other animator's work besides Iwane. And now that they're shown to be very disappointed with the anime. I'm not sure they will have the motivation like they had in XY. Nishitani even said he would never be the animation director of an episode every again after he animated the finals which means he will only do 2-3min animations here and there.
