Pokemon "clones" recommendations

I don't know if this is a valid thread for this board, but here it goes.
Does anyone know any good Pokemon-like games with story that can be taken at least a bit more seriously than the actual Pokemon games? I don't want to play any SMT or fangames (for now, I'll play them some other time). Digimon are welcome, as I don't know much about this series other than the first 3 anime seasons.
Bonus points for GBA games.

Ik its not gba but if you have a ps4 or vita digimon cyber sleuth is really good. Has some similarities to pokemon but some of the mechanics are different but you'll probably enjoy it a lot. Story is ok but it's probably better than most pokemon games anyways

World of Final Fantasy is looking like it's gonna be pretty good, but I don't know how much you'd get out of it if you aren't a Final Fantasy games.

Dragon Quest Monsters is supposed to be pretty good, but I don't know enough about the series to recommend one over the other.

I heard about CS, it's one of my main reasons to finally own a Vita. Maybe someday. How about some older Digimon games so I can emulate those or buy a digital version?

There's a Monster Hunter spinoff game coming out some time soon called Monster Hunter Stories. I don't think it'll get localized, but it's worth looking into if you like the creature designs in Monster Hunter.
