I feel like the unintentionally did a good job.

The atmosphere in Kalos, especially Lumiose in particular, can be snobbish and annoying at times, and as another anon pointed out the fact you took the chance to be able to mega from someone else so that you would be the one to have megas was supposed to be a demonstration of his point.

Still could've been done a lot better

His issue was that people are assholes and that, because people are assholes, that they're inevitably going to become more horrible when resources get scarce and wants/needs remain static or even increase. He wasn't wrong, technically, but his 'solution' was fifty shades of fucked up. Game Freak just sort of tripped up over themselves with his exposition.
