The great thing about the games is that in the long run, it really doesn't matter. It all depends on who you choose as your protagonist.

You can argue 'canon' all you really want, but it really doesn't matter in the long run.

You aren't "May", you're you (unless you actually are named May). May is only the name of the rival if you were playing as a guy.

The MC's are always inserts for the player, no matter what. Unless you're actually roleplaying as another character, they're literally you.

Well yes. You are May if you choose to play as May. I mean, you are aware of the fact that you can choose either Brendan or May as the protagonist, right?

The only one you can consider to be the 'canon protagonist' of a game is Red. Considering you fight him on the top of Mt. Silver, and the fact that he appears in the World Torunament

The pairing was pretty popular so I can see why they'd want to emulate it in the remake. I imagine they'd do the same thing if they remade Black and White in the future.
