even if gyms haven't been officially disconfirmed, it's highly unlikely they will feature both at the same time. doing that would make the center around three plots at the same time (captains, villains, and gym leaders), making it somewhat convoluted
not to forget that there doesn't seem to be trace of where the gym leaders would be on the map
You're right, no gyms has not been confirmed yet, but it's so plain that i am willing to bet the four walls that keep me warm at night that there won't be any
