Every game is canon. Even if there are inconsistencies, you can just assume the previous thing was retconned for the newer game. But there all canon and all share a universe and have basically the same history except for the retcons. Which is why you saw Looker in Gen 6, and see Dexio and Sina in Gen 7.

Pretty much this except that

Xy,oras,aola,anime are still the same universe steven mentioned alain in oras.
Also each catridge represents a different timelime with each playtrough being canon.
I think why people are butthurt about is that the games are mentioning thr anime making it canon but if you dont have a high level of autism you should be enough to enjoy the game as it is.

Ash meet with may and there was no primal groudon/kyogre in his story. Also jessie james appeared in yellow so alain being named in oras proves nothing.

You know the parallel world thing was since gen1. It is also just to justify how to trade between two players. It is just a parallel universe where the players are. The link cable makes the connection between them.

The canon timeline is:

r/b/g/y/fr/lg = r/s/e/or/as > g/s/c/hg/ss = d/p/pt > (b > b2)/(/w > w2) > x/y > s/m

Since only one version occurred, there are theoretically 5*5*5*3*2*2*2*2=3000 distinct timelines.

ORAS is a difficult case, because it tries to build upon the XY lore. Does this mean that XY can't occur in a timeline with R/S/E? I could understand that, but we'll probably never know for sure if a version of the events of XY took place.

The anime mostly isn't canon to the games, but there are references to it, which means a couple of non-conflicting parts of it are.

Except for the fact that even in the anime it's a pure coincidence that it looks like Ash as one existed generations ago that looked exactly like it. Not to mention the anime timeline STILL doesn't fit with the game timeline.

It's
Kanto/Hoenn > Johto/Sinnoh > Unova > Unova2/Kalos > Alola
In the anime it's
Kanto > Johto > Hoenn > Sinnoh > Unova > Kalos > Alola
With a whole bunch of messed up ages and what not.

You'd have to do some major restructuring of events and heavy retconnning if you were to fit the anime in to the game's canon.

Just because ash grneinja is froma demo doesn't make it non canon since you can play it in the main game which connects anime world to the game world.

That would make every reference and mention to other games and a whole variety of things make no sense at all. In any case it's already a fact that those events happened in the Mega verse in some way.

One of the key things cementing that is the NPC that mentions Plasma in XY as well as the painting of the Gen 4 frontier.
