Somethings definitely not right with this evolve line. They wouldn't make a so prominent clown theme just to get rid of it by the second stage.

And they just introduced split evos so... Something definitely's going on.

It never stated it loved to make people laugh
It never stated it actually entertained people with hilarious antics

It DID state it loves to make water bubbles
It DID state it loves to show off its acrobatic skills
and nothing else
Literally the only clown thing was the colored nose, which is meant to represent seals balancing balls on their nose and the frill
No fucking clown theme other than pretty much one fucking thing on it AT BEST and even then other performer types wear it too

It isn't a clown it is a dancer. Its upright pose is standing for applause. The nose is to be reminiscent of old aquarium and circus shows of Seals honking horns. I also feel based on the description of all the startes on the website each satge is meant to be representative of the stages of school/learning. Poplio is the cute outgoing child always preforming for friends/Family. Brioon is the akward looking teenager who is becoming an expert of their skill like a drama geek/balet student who hasn't grown into their body. Siren/popmaid is all grown up and successful. Grown into their body and a master of damnce amd singing.

That's not stupid at all. It's the whole reason behind it. Popplio is a performer sea lion, but I guess they didn't want it to be the circus sea lion we all thought it would be and instead it took the route of a pop star. Which I will say Gamefreak has a knack of making things unexpected (ESPECIALLY in this gen), but it feels weird for it to lose the circus sea lion concept entirely and go to the pop star line.
Oh well. Circus performers probably don't get as much money anyway.

It's not that prominent, though yes it does have a clown theme. But pop stars are a kind of clown in a way. A clown on the world stage. I'd like split evos too for more choices, but it's not like they "wouldn't" throw you a curveball, GF wants to do exactly that.
