How this line's mouth works really triggers me. Barn owl beaks are curved downward. The orange part is the beak and it opens upward. but these guys have basically a normally oriented beak, just colored to evoke a barn owl's style of beak.

That bothered me too. It's not supposed to be a 1:1 barn owl so I accepted it. The stylization is kind of interesting, though if it were true to how it actually works I think it would look better.

No, that's just you making shit up. They are associated with wisdom just because Athena/Minerva kept an owl as a pet. That's it. It's the same with eagles being regal glorious birds because it was Zeus/Jupiter's bird.

And foxes are seen as smart not because they are predators but because they are evasive.
