Now that we know once and for all, completely 100% certain that Roothoot is and always has been fake (roothootfags BTFO), I can't help but wonder... Where did it come from? A grass owl is oddly specific, and it's coloring isn't far off the real deal. Does /vp/ think it's possible early artwork, or did some leakfag make a lucky guess? Does anyone have the pics of the original thread from 2ch?

I've always assumed it was some leaked beta art. It wouldn't surprise me to learn that GF does such things intentionally, to build up hype and get some feedback by showing off an already scrapped design.

I have the same hopes for luchalitten and co. It would certainly explain a lot.

From what I remember, the original was black-and-white and then someone colored it in to make it work as a Grass starter. Then the trademarks indicated a Grass owl so people spammed the colored version and the black-and-white one got buried and forgotten.

Roothoot originally came in a trio. However, the trademark revealed there was going to be a Grass owl, so the other two were promptly dropped. It's why everyone only remembers Roothoot, because it's the one that was spammed between the trademark's reveal and the starters first being shown on May 10.

I thought it was always fake. I mean it could't be a coincidence that it's a grass owl but this just seems TOO simple for current pokemon. Every pokemon this gen and last gen is complicated and has a lot of shit going on in their design but this one has nothing interesting. That's why I thought it was fake.

It still can be an alternate evo, perhaps the Dartrix we know of is only the evo in Pokémon Sun.
In fact, it seems very plausible.

I feel like it was drawn by some chinese loser who then posted it and then 2chan got wind of it, made a typical "muh leak" thread akin to ours, and then a veteran shitposter imported it over here to us and got everyone into a cycle of unknowingly forcing it.

The chinese guy in question being someone like the creator of Birdemic. A sad, ignorant and lost soul who thinks he's the next Da Vinci. I will have to say though the fact that he got the owl and color scheme part half-right was a tremendous cosmic coincidence. I don't recall if the trademarks had leaked before or after the fact to know Mukoroh or whatever the fuck was owl related.

But yeah, RIP Roothoot. He will join Sadfish and Tentaquil in the annals of /vp/ shitfest history, only to be brought up every now and then, ultimately forgotten.

I was part of the shitposting for about 2 weeks until it got boring.
