I don't watch the anime so I might be speaking out of my ass, but wasn't Ash-Greninja's whole deal that he shared its pain with Ash? Does that mean that if the trainer in SM uses it and it gets hurt, somewhere in the world Ash will get hurt too without warning? Is Ash-Greninja just a huge voodoo doll?

Its trainer gets hurt. It doesn't mean that such /trainer/ is always Ash since there are two known "Ash-Greninja" in the Anime.

The one owned by Ash is the second one documented according to the Anime.
