Hey fags, should I play the game in english or in german ? The german names look much better so far, but I also liked playing games like platinum and black in english, who of you has also this problem ?

i just always play it in german just because i've played all the games before in german. everything else, like if i want to look up shit about the game, i am doing in english. i never visit any german pages.

Ja die Sache ist die, hier in Österreich zock ich mit 2 und drüben in Amerika hab ich auch n paar verwandte mit denen ich zocke, bis zur 4. gen kann ich alle namen in beiden sprachen und ab der 5 nur deutsch und n paar englische, aber auf englisch wars i.wie besser, nur n paar namen sind scheisse im englischen... Mir gehts eig. Nur um die Namen, ich behersche sowieso beide sprachen flüssig.

The people you play with don't really have an impact on your game now or have they? If you hang out on /vp/ you will inevitably learn the english names too.

Pretty much every game not created in the local language should be played in English if it is an option, unless it is proven fact that the English version is shit.

So Japan should always play games made in Japanese where possible, and English whenever that is not possible (assuming they speak English of course.)

So if you are bilingual but the local language translation isn't proven to be superior to English, go for English. That has always been my stance.

If I play a North American Pokémon cartridge but play in German, when I trade, will my partner get an English or German Pokémon?

German pokemon with NA-version "caught in..."-data.

In other words, if you send it to your American friend he will get a German dex entry, but Masuda method won't apply.

I used to play the games in German as a kid (obviously), but for many many years now I've only played in English.

Much easier when looking up anything online or talking to other people here too.

I play in English instead of French because, while I do enjoy the French names, the actual in-game translation is kind of awful. That was especially true in BW 1/2.

So language doesn't have any effect on the Masuda method? I always hear conflicting things about it and no one really knows if language does anything or not, only that language didn't mean shit in Gen4.
However now you have the tags, which get determined by your language, but if a language doesn't actually matter in the end then it's actually not helping in identifying a Pokemon's origin at all and rather complicates it.
For example I could get a to hell and back wondertraded "Eng" Poochyena that was originally just from a German game with english language setting and from the limited information that is shown to me I will never be the wiser that it's actually just german and won't help me with MMing. If that's the case why did GF even come up with this retarded tag in the first place? It just makes things more complicated.

I think if you want to play competitive it is much better if you play it in english, cause i doubt that the story is in the most difficult english haha, i guess they'll make it easy enough for kids to understand..
