lmao it looks like a decrepit old man with a hobo beard and a bald head. And what's badass about it? It's mediocre defense stats and the fact that the only recovery moves it learns are rest and swallow? kek and let's not even talk about it's offensive presence. Piss poor offensive stats and the only good ice type move it learns by level up is fucking blizzard which will not only miss a lot but also won't even hurt that much because it is weak as fuck. The only good thing it has going for it is it's HP which is sort of high so it can maybe take one hit while you heal the rest of your party, and given the shitty distribution it has in most, if not all, games, you will most likely find a bunch of other pokémon that are better at it and most likely at other things too. But I guess it's at least better than dewgong which is just shit all around.

I adressed both their designs and their viability in battles in the OP, that's why I'm taking both things into consideration. And no, I'm not only talking about their viability in competitive enviroments.

How to make a walrus look badass? well, first of all give it a proper beard if you are going to give it one, and fangs that are at least long enough for them to be useful. Walrein was deliberatedly made to look goofy.

How do you not realize this is pure opinion? This is all subject to your opinions of 'proper beard' and 'long enough' regarding tusks. That's why a lot of people do see it as badass.

Yep, that's exactly what you are doing. Instead of arguing what makes Walrein look badass you are saying it just looks badass because some people thinks so.

There are people who think pikachu looks badass as well.

My argument is that the elements that supposedly make Walrein badass have not been properly executed (if that was the intention). It has fangs but they are too small for them to look intimidating or even useful, and its moustache/beard makes it look like it is wearing some sort of victorian clown neck. They could have given it a more menacing or imponent look while keeping walrein's foam motif, but they didn't -probably because that's not what they were aiming for in the first place.

You don't realize you're arguing for your opinion by saying the fangs aren't long enough to your liking. The fangs are long enough to a lot of people's liking. If you make them too long, they'd be purely for aesthetic rather than actually functional. You know, I don't mind Seel and its evolution nor its simplicity in its design. Maybe because I grew with it. I've never used one though.

Nor do I mind Walrein, even though he's not exactly what I'd pick. It's a walrus, it's not exactly meant to be pretty, but it's there chilling. He's tame. No one's perfect, but I bet it's been a great pal to some.

That's not a sea lion. I wish it was. At least Brionne still resembles its species, even though I'm not thrilled by the frill excess and the seemingly pointless pink pupil which makes it look even weirder than it's supposed to.

It's quite literally a pop idol dressed as a sea lion dressed as a mermaid. It's supposed to be the most elegant thing to ever walk upon this earth and yet, it looks like one of the most awkward things I've ever witnessed Game Freak has ever managed to create.

I hope to god this thing looks decent in-game, because holy shit, that's just bad. Like horrid bad.

But hey, I bet you're now readying your fingers to reply to this very post to argue with me and send me to hell as you proclaim yourself chief of the goddamn Popplio Protection Squad in order to protect this lovely madam.

Keep the damn idol to yourselves and stop shoving your standards everywhere, Popplio never needed any goddamn protection to begin with and the reason there was a Protection Squad to begin with was because l i t e r a l l y everyone hated the damn design (I happened to be one of the few who legitimately liked him) and people rallied up in a petty circlejerk, feeling sorry over a goddamn fictional design and how it would turn everyone's heads away. And now that this happened, the fanbase grew even more intolerable and how we should all feel sorry about how we have forsaken Popplio at first when the truth is, everyone will just immediately evolve Popplio into this thing in order for it to become something to be proud of and rub it on everyone's face when it's hardly a decent design.

There are a lot more badass Pokemon when you speak generally so yeah it's forgotten (especially with lack of a Mega to re-vamp interest), but you narrowed the scope to this type of animal so something can be said of it. A matter of popularity is a different story.

And regarding the OHKO spamming, it just builds an infamy for it that makes more people fear it, to build more into what it represents.

No, don't worry, I don't need one to cover my ass. I can't argue with people who legitimately just like the final evolution, as long they liked Popplio and Brionnen as well. They might just like frilly things or happen to like the unexpected mermaid concept, but hey, as long they like all of the line. I just find it disheartening how people feel the need to shove the final evolution as something that you should have never mocked with and how it's the most elegant thing ever.

God forbid if these very same people witnessed a entirely different evolution for Popplio, I'd like to see their response to that.

It's mostly disappointing to me in the sense that in order for Popplio to become something good (?), that it somehow needs to ditch being a sea lion entirely and become something else.
