We had Steven as our guide in the ORAS demo, this time around it'll be Ash. Or who knows, maybe Clemont, Bonnie or Serena?

Which is actually kinda cool to be honest. I always did like how Yellow canonized the anime (to an extent).

So, what would be a good set for Ash Greninja?
Keep in mind that it doesn't have protean, but will probably get increased stats like speed. Probably mega-like stats, so it's basically a mega plus a held item.

The only downside is having to knock out an enemy mon to get the form. Water shuricken priority shenanigans may help?

So you'd have to rely on speed to one-shot a squishy or something that's worn down.
Which shouldn't be hard, because switching out against Proteaninja is fucking suicide unless it's to a dedicated counter like Chansey or Azumarill

The only way its justifiable for it to become Ash-Greninja after Battle Bond activates is if there's a cutscene that shows Ash for a few seconds. That way, it would portray its longing feelings for Ash. Then I'd be fine with it, I'd still be getting cucked though.
