Gamefreak is unlikely to give enough of a fuck about leaks to redesign them, but they have redesigned pokemon that have already had sprites before.
Not to mention that you can edit a model even when the animations are already done, especially if the basic idea behind them is still the same.
See: fighting games - particularly when a character gets grappled/thrown. Their animations tend to be pretty much the same even when their body shapes/sizes vary, but it's possible because they usually still have the same number of limbs.
