Since it looks like the protagonist you don't choose doesn't show up in the main story, will you assume they show as a cameo in somewhere in the game?

They should make Gladion be a rival instead.

The starters have an offensive move that's also their type right away, so Hau has to choose the starter weak to you at first. Hopefully someone takes the stronger starter later in the game and there's more than one rival.
I get the vibe that Gladion is going to be a recurring trainer that might as well be a rival anyway.
