HAs were introduced in the same generation DW was introduced, so most HA can be defined as Abilities that a Pokemon wish to have (Blaziken wishes to be faster, Dragonite and Lugia wish to be bulkier, Serperior wishes to be useful, tc.)

And Umbreon is a Dark type.
It's official that the decision to make the dark type came somewhat late, and given that Karen uses a Vileplume... Umbreon's stats are also more in line with a Poison-type, being bulky and slow rather than the usually mixed, frail, glass cannon dark-types
