I mean, the largest connections were pretty small for the most part, obvious exceptions being Kanto/Johto and a little bit of Hoenn/Kanto and Sinnoh/Johto - but for the most part the lore has been very isolated.
This time they actually planned ahead a bit, and took the time to write in a proper backstory tie-in to flesh things out.
