Honestly both groups will probably want control over the respective cover legendary. We were told before that all Team Flare were were simple crooks interested in making money, and people were speculating whether or not they'd be a new kind of Team Rocket, but it was just trying to hide the deeper intentions which was to destroy everything

My theory on this is that the Aether Foundation are exactly who they say they are and you help them stop Team Skull...

Then the Ultra Beasts come into the picture and because they are seen as a threat to humans and Pokémon the Aether Foundation decide to find a way to get rid of them. But you are told you need to protect the Ultra Beasts pitting you against the Aether Foundation.

I think the point is more that having their own "underling" trainer class makes it clearer that we're going to end up fighting them. "Grunt" is just a shorthand used to highlight the similarity to the structure of other enemy teams.

The best plot twist would be if the UBs were actually just a red herring. Like, robots or something. And all the frightened reaction to them were staged.

The final dungeon would be a vast empty hall, with a bunch of giant test tubes with UBs floating lifelessly inside them. No music, just the sound of your footsteps and the eerie bubbling from inside the tubes.

This is what I think they are, except I can't get around UB01 which looks like a living organism and changes shape.They even look like robots.

Given that even Deoxys(a space virus) is considered a Pokemon, there are only 2 explanations I can think of for the Ultra Beasts.

1. They are in fact, just Pokemon.
2. They aren't actually living organisms, but some kind of robot or experiment.

Given that even Deoxys is considered a Pokemon. but UBs are not, exactly what they ARE is fucking terrifying because we onlyknow what they are NOT.

I dunno if they will be the main villains, but I doubt you won't end up fighting them at some point, with them having 'grunts' that appear to be young trainers, just like every other opposing faction in Pokemon.
